Snowboarding Breaks for the Eco Aware Tourist
Thousands of avid snowboarders will presently be finding their ski gear and dashing forth hunting for the greatest snow. And undoubtedly the impact of our carbon footprint will be virtually as far down the list of holiday to dos as a Christmas tree after Christmas. Merely last Christmas, a slow snowfall hit the broadsheets and holidaymakers were panic struck about the bits of snow dissolving almost as soon as they put down.
Snowboarding company Chalet 1802, based at the foot of Monte Bianco in Chamonix ski resort in the French Alps, is one of the first autonomous businesses to go carbon neutral and afford snowboarders an environmentally friendly choice whilst booking their skiing trip. Chalet 1802 owner DIANA stated: Last year was quite a shock with the most warm wintertime in fifty years in the French Alps. French resorts such as Les Deux Alpes, Chamonix and Montgenevre suffered. It was balmy and the snow didnt last so much of the early ski season in the mountains was uneven. We decided to go carbon negative to help preserve the ski resort.
DIANA said: We’re not assaying to prescribe to clients but we consider its of import to provide them the choice without increasing the price of the stay. When they book with us and goes on holiday to our skiing chalet they may more than off-set their carbon footprint and we take in the other prices. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub – guests want lavishness but not at the expense of the surroundings, so we considered methods of lessening the impact of a skier traveling over here for a skiing holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have also partnered with group Climate Care, who attacks global warming by making carbon dioxide deductions for people and companies.
